Settling for Less Than Our Dreams, Limiting Beliefs, Sideways Thinking, and Unorthodox Ideas

Lifestyle DesignSettling for Less Than Our Dreams

We often settle for less than our dreams because we do not know what we want. Or we accept self-imposed restrictions, limitations, believe erroneous assumptions, or just accept that this is just the way life is. Poppy cock!

We accept less than our dreams because we give in to our fears.

Limiting Beliefs

To often we think we have to choose between business success and a life of our dreams, I say we can have both. It does not always have to be either, or - why not also, and both? We need to change the way we think, by thinking sideways.

Sideways Thinking Opens Doors

The reason we get stuck in neutral is due to constipated thinking. Thinking that says we should just accept the way things are and “Don’t rock the boat!” Yet when we dare to move outside our restrictive, fear based thinking we discover a rich landscape of opportunities that we never knew were there.

Truth is those opportunities were always there, just you can now see them because you moved sideways to take a better look, it is called lateral or sideways thinking. Lateral [sideways] thinking is a term invented by Edward de Bono.

He defines [lateral thinking] as a technique of problem solving by approaching problems indirectly at diverse angles instead of concentrating on one approach at length. Via Wikipedia

Look for ways to look at your situation from more than one angle, direction, and perspective. You will be amazed at what you discover.

Embrace Unorthodox Ideas

Accepting barriers is unhealthy. We have been trained to respect barriers, think analytically and look for absolutes and it robs us every time. We love things that are black and white because it makes us feel safe and secure.

Every major best selling book or new product helps us see the value in an unorthodox idea or concept. The willingness to explore contrary thoughts and ideas is the first step to building a new business model, best selling book, or inventing a new product.

Going with the crowd and the common is just so average and limiting. Use these questions to breakthrough old patterns of thinking:

  • Will you dare to break out of your jail cell of stinkin’ thinkin’?
  • Are you willing to break with convention or tradition?
  • What are you putting off out of fear?
  • How can you take action now to get started dealing with your greatest fear?
